Bioterra facilities are in a 26,000 m² land plot, 2,500 of them dedicated to naves that run different productive processes. The rest of it is designed to host different research studies and to the development of new almond tree varieties.

We have recently made an investment to build new facilities, updating the current machineries and increasing the places where the production processes are already done, like flour production line and the packaging mechanization. Besides we have a new 350 m2 storage warehouse for the correct conservation of our entire range of products that substitutes the former one, that had become too small.

  2. Blanching, taking the skin off and making also the milling process.

Research and development agreements

Bioterra has several agreements with EXATC, Extremadura Agri-Food National Technologic Centre (known in Spanish as CTAEX, Centro Tecnológico Nacional Agroalimentario de Extremadura), in the estate La Orden-Valdesequera. It is a collaboration agreement for five years for the development and implementation of the newest varieties in Extremadura.

With two hectares dedicated to ten varieties, our surface is also the Almond Tree Investigation Centre in Extremadura.

We have instruments to check out the rainfall, the wind and the temperature at all times. This data are contrasted by both our team and EXATC’s technicians to make the corresponding study and monitoring. It will be made public afterwards, as well as the performance of each almond tree variety.

This way, the farmer who may be interested in farming almonds trees has the certainty that he is going to plant the variety best adapted to his climatic conditions looking for the productive efficiency.

It is a total change from the native varieties whose early blooming counts with the frost risk, which means constantly crop losses in the final production.

The varieties we are implanting are monovarietals and self-fertile. In this way the producer does not need to plant two different varieties to pollinate and can make the plantation of just one variety.

With 250 kilos of almonds in shell, the percentage of kernel presented in traditional varieties is about 20% while in the current ones the yield is higher than 30%, and thus the profitability increases.

Company's future

Another research line is a collaboration agreement with EXATC in which we are constantly developing different products. Our product range has about 50 references. Two years ago we incorporated six new references and last year we did likewise with three others.

From Bioterra, in our desire of growth, we think about the possibility of increasing our range developing new products. Among our last production lines the creams and the almond oil appear. We have also created the almond with chilli , the Indian almond and a very special one, the almond with sweet paprika. This last flavour allows the promotion of a region (La Vera) and a product well-known worldwide like the paprika is.
